Many are trapped as a two-story building collapses in Calabar
A two-story building under construction collapsed in the municipality of Calabar, the capital of Cross River State, leaving many prisoners and injured on Saturday.
As a result, an unknown number of those injured in the incident have been rescued and taken to medical facilities for treatment, as no fatalities have so far been recorded as a result of the collapse of the building.
Meanwhile, preliminary investigations into the incident indicate that the cause of the building's collapse is not unrelated to the negligence and use of substandard building materials that had previously drawn attention from the State Department of Urban Renewal to issue a notice to the builder "Notice to Stop Work", which were totally ignored by the builder.
Furthermore, a statement from the State Department of Information and Guidance, signed by Mr. Eric Iso Anderson, assured residents of maximum concern, assistance and fully investigate the incident to prevent it from happening again.
“The Cross River Government has noted with great concern the unfortunate incident of the two storey building that collapsed today in Nta Eke Street along the EFIO-Ette axis of Ikot Ishie in the municipality of Calabar of the State.
“The government hereby assures residents that the incident will be fully investigated in order to prevent it from happening in the future, while ensuring the safety of life and property in the community. 'State.
