Fans target Oshoala after Banyana loss

Fans took to social media on Monday to slam Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala following their 2-1 loss to arch-rivals South Africa in the the 2022 Women's Africa Cup of Nations in Rabat, Morocco.

Some fans pointed out that she was too slow, while others said she just didn't give enough.

Nigeria's quest for a 10th title began on a shaky note with defeat in the Falcons' Group C opener at the Prince Heritier Moulay El Hassan stadium in Rabat.

The Falcons entered the game against South Africa as favorites, but were on the back foot throughout.

Two quick second-half goals from Jermaine Seoposenwe and Hilda Magaia within two minutes gave the South Africans their fourth victory against the Falcons.

A 92nd-minute goal from striker Rasheedat Ajibade proved mere consolation, as Banyana picked up his third victory in his last four meetings with the Falcons.

But fans felt that Oshoala, who looked isolated before being knocked off in the 82nd minute with a first-half injury, was not at its best in dating.

User @Buchi_Laba asked for Pichichi winner to be substituted early "Asisat can't run!! Get her out! The sooner the better."

Akpan Joseph felt that Oshoala was not giving him his all and was explicit in his review: "Asisat should get off his high horse and play for the hawks or walk away, missing chances like she doesn't care and what's up with the groceries like a 59 year old woman."

Another user @mighty_mightty added: "Asisat is still bossy on the pitch, the thirst to win is not there, I give credit to Alozie and Plumptre."

Dwight Shrute wrote: “Asisat is too proud. Drop the shoulder and play ball, no chirping, be that abeg. »

David Peter thought the 27-year-old hadn't given his all and criticized the team's overall performance: "Asisat need to do better, it's AFCON not a friendly "Ashleigh needs to improve, she got caught up in a lot of teeth and didn't recover fast enough. The Super Falcons should try to build from the back and our midfielders should stop playing like Fred and McTominay"< /p>

Two users also think the transfer is overrated.

@abeembohlah said: "Honestly, Asisat Oshoala is TOO overrated."

"Imagine. The best player on the pitch for Nigerian women has been the white girl, Ashleigh. Asisat Oshoala is overrated."

However, other fans defended Oshoala and instead blamed the entire team.

Olanike oluwadamilola said: "No slander from Asisat Oshoala will be tolerated today…. No unique playmaker in this team… No role models nothing nothing omo I'm tired oooo.”

David Ben added: "It's not all about Asisat Oshoala, the whole team game was horrible. It's not always about her. The keeper got rusty . Super Falcons just don't hawk today. It's been a while since I've seen them play this poor no matter who #BayanaBayana is #WAFCON #NGARSA."

Samuel Enobong thought Bayana deserved the win.

"Bayana deserves to win. I only watched the first half and they played better. Super Falcons are just hype, long balls for Asisat to chase. They don't even keep the ball for the ground game Abeg mak Una allow mak who Sabi ball dey win abeg.”
