In an interview at the New York Times DealBook Summit on Wednesday, Zuckerberg challenged Apple's control of its App Store. "I think Apple has kind of stood out as the only company that tries to unilaterally control what apps get on a device," he said, "and I don't think that's a place durable or good to be."

Zuckerberg continued, "I think it's problematic for a company to be able to control the type of app experiences on the device."

His comments follow similar criticism from Elon Musk. In a series of tweets that also addressed what he claimed was Apple's reduction in ad buying on Twitter, Musk called Apple's control of the App Store a "serious issue." The billionaire also said that Twitter could be kicked out of the App Store without giving a reason.

Zuckerberg hasn't responded to Musk's comments about Apple, but his criticism of the company's policies is nothing new. Two years ago, he accused Apple of blocking competitors and charging "monopoly rents" on the App Store. Musk also lambasted Apple's App Store fees: the company takes 15% to 30% of all iOS in-app purchases.

In 2021, Apple changed its privacy policy, preventing social apps like Meta's Facebook from targeting users with ads. As a result, businesses that rely on digital advertising profits have seen their revenues plummet, with Meta profits dropping by 50%.
