Matawalle, Yari, Marafa and others unite as APC begins campaign in Zamfara

The ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in Zamfara state announced its gubernatorial campaign in Kaura Namoda local government area on Tuesday - one of the councils that has never voted for a party political with the exception of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP).

The inauguration ceremony brought together all the former governors of the state, including Abdulaziz Yari, who initially disagreed with outgoing governor Bello Matawall.

Other former governors who attended the rally were Ahmad Sani and Mahmud Shinkafi.

A former senator, Kabiru Marafa, former defense minister, Mansur Dan-Ali, another former minister, Bashir Yuguda, and Hassan Sahabi were also among the state's top political leaders present.

Speaking at the rally, Mr Matawall said that all former governors and senior party officials agreed to ensure the peaceful coexistence of people in the state.

He said that if elected to a second term, he would prioritize human capital development for the socio-economic benefits of the natives and residents of the state.

Mr. Matawall said the government had approved the construction of a rapid response unit for security agencies in Kaura Namoda local government area and budgeted N500 million for hospital upgrades in the area.

"Any party member who truly believes in all past governors and party leaders who attended the event should vote for Bola Tinubu and all APC candidates in the state,” Mr. Matawall said.

The governor has said that anyone from Zamfara who excels in their chosen business and does not align with the APC in the state is not a native and should move to the Neighboring Katsina State.

However, he did not name anyone in the hit who allegedly targeted opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate Dauda Lawal.

Mr. Matawall said Tuesday's event was the first time that the entire political class of Zamfara State came together as a single indivisible entity.

He added that such a gathering is a step towards a lasting peace that will pave the way for meaningful development projects in the state.
