Max Verstappen offers four-word reaction to Lewis Hamilton's Belgian GP crash replay

Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez were filmed watching a replay of Lewis Hamilton's crash with Fernando Alonso in the recovery room and the Dutchman shared his thoughts with his teammate. Verstappen started 14th on the grid and avoided some of the chaos that awaited him to finally take his ninth win of the season and arguably the easiest of his career.

Some of the chaos that awaited him on the first lap was caused by the meeting of Hamilton and Alonso heading into the chicane. Hamilton tried to pass his former team-mate on the outside but Alonso was unwilling to give up the place with the two joining and the Briton flying through the air.

The seven-time world champion crashed hard to the ground and tried to continue the race, but was quickly ordered to stop after too much damage was done to his car. Perez had a bird's eye view of the crash on the track as he battled George Russell around the same corner, and nearly collided with Alonso exiting the chicane.

But Verstappen was seeing the incident for the first time after his race win when replays of the crash were shown in the recovery room. Perez and Verstappen stood there glued to the screen as onboard footage of Alonso and Hamilton was shown.

When the in-car footage of Hamilton was released, it showed how Hamilton had come down to the ground after being thrown through the air. "It's a great success," Verstappen could be heard telling Perez.

Carlos Sainz then entered the room where the championship rivals began talking about their respective races. Verstappen pointed out that tire degradation was bad around the Spa track, to which Sainz replied: "For you, no."

Verstappen then jokingly replied, "A little less than you."

The laughter and jokes shared in the recovery room will be a far cry from the atmosphere inside Mercedes' garage. Promising results in France and Hungary ahead of the summer break hinted that Hamilton and George Russell would be back and closing the gap to the Championship leaders even further.

But the Belgian Grand Prix saw them take another step back with Hamilton calling the troublesome W13 on Saturday. However, Hamilton took full responsibility for his role in the crash with Alonso.

He said, "Looking at the footage, he was in my blind spot and I didn't give him enough space. It was my fault, I couldn't see him - he was just in my blind spot."
