Mir Hamza: Warwickshire sign Pakistani paceman in short-term deal

Mir Hamza

The 30-year-old, who has 379 top-class wickets, replaces fellow countryman Hasan Ali in the squad.

He will be available for home games against Lancashire, from Wednesday, and Middlesex on July 25 .

Left arm Hamza has previous county cricket experience, having played seven games for Sussex in 2019, when he won 24 wickets.

"Hamza will give us another dimension to our bowling unit as a left hander," head coach Marc Robinson said.

"We're stretched slightly by the minute, and while Craig Miles and Liam Norwell are on the trail of the back, we'll be light in the seams department if anything happens to our currently in-form bowlers.

" He bowled alongside Burgy [Michael Burgess] and Briggsy [Danny Briggs] at Sussex, all of whom, along with Hasan, said he was a very skilled bowler."

Warwickshire had hoped to sign Hamza in time to play in last week's win over Kent, but his arrival was delayed by visa issues.

The Bears nevertheless won in three days and are third in the Division One table, 23 points behind leader Surrey.
