Speaking at the ceremony, the traditional leader said, "I am honored with the 'Defender of the Faithful' award bestowed on me by the respectable Islamic body, Muslims Rights Concern (MURIC). The recognition presented a formidable challenge to do more towards spreading the unity of Olodumare (God)."

"On behalf of the good people of Iwoland and my supporters, I appreciate MURIC in general and its founder, Professor Ishaq Akintola in particular, for considering me worthy. I pray for a happy retirement and more years thriving with positive accomplishments."

He, however, described the body as believable and its limbs as embodying impeccable pedigrees that can stand the test of time at all times.

The monarch, while describing the award as a challenge to further spread the unity of Olodumare (God), instructed other monarchs, especially those of Yorubaland, to devote themselves more to defending the institution of God they represent.

The event was chaired by legal icon, Mallam Yusuf Ali, and the keynote address was delivered by Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, the former Governor of Kaduna State, who was also a laureate of the event.

In his opening speech, Mallam Rufai described the awards as well received and pledged to move forward in proclaiming the faith.

He however preached unity and harmony between religious groups and warned against sectionalism, segregation and nepotism in the interests of the country's development.
