Muslim-Muslim ticket: Why power cannot stay in the north after Buhari's eight years - Akeredolu

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo state said the north could not retain power after producing the president who spent eight years in power.

Mr. Akeredolu, who spoke on Sunday at the 40th Spirit Sword Ministries Holy Spirit Convention Dinner held at the University of Ibadan International Conference Center in the Oyo State, said voting for a candidate from the north would be a misnomer in the current political situation in the country.

He urged Christians not to undermine the struggle to return power to the south because of his party's choice to field a Muslim/Muslim ticket in the upcoming presidential election.

Mr. Akeredolu has been at the forefront of the struggle to transfer power from North to South ahead of the All Progressives Congress presidential primary.

While APC presidential candidate Bola Tinubu is from the South West, main opposition party candidate Atiku Abubakar is from the North East

Mr. Akeredolu, who is also the chairman of the Southern Governors Forum, indicated that the fight for Nigeria's president to come from the south of the country in 2023 should not be in vain.

He had led his colleagues in the Southern Governors Forum to demand a Southern presidency despite strong opposition from some quarters.

He appealed to the people not to waste the chances of producing the next president, especially from the South West where Bola Tinubu is from.

He described Mr. Tinubu as the best choice, adding that he has the experience and courage to meet the challenges facing the country.

On the Muslim/Muslim ticket, the governor pleaded with Christians to look beyond religion and focus on the competence of the presidential candidate.

While emphasizing that the responsibility rests on the President's table, the Governor added that what is important is to have a Southern President in 2023.

"I have discussed with Bishop Francis Wale Oke that the presidency must come to the south. Take it or leave it, it's the least we can have. It must come to the south," he said. -he says.

"The north cannot produce a president for eight years and still wants to keep him for another eight years. This will not work.

"That's why, as part of the Southern Governors Forum where, thankfully, God appointed me president, we kept insisting on this. He must come to the south. And when he also arrived to our party at APC, we fought for it to come south.

"Fortunately, he didn't just come to the south, but also to the southwest. Now, where are we? I understand our feelings because I am one of you. I am a Christian. We are all here worried. What will be our gain, and this, why is my party, the APC, launching a Muslim/Muslim ticket?"

Mr. Akeredolu said the APC Muslim/Muslim ticket has been a problem for party members, including himself.

“We debated it, fought it and did so many things about it. I always told people that my fight was for the president of the South,” he said.

"Now that he's arrived in the South West, am I now going to throw the baby out with the bathwater? Can I, in all honesty, do that? Shall I, in all honesty, do?

"We call it a matter of coincidence. It's a matter of conscience. We're all here, why don't we look at it from one angle. capable hand that can handle business if given the chance? Do you have a man bold enough to challenge an incursion into our country? That's all.

"All of us here have been living together for years and we have not allowed religion to fight between us. We have Muslims in our families and there is no fighting. We have many leaders in Yoruba land who have both Muslims and Christians in their families and there is no fighting.

"So we want to appeal to our people that this is our time. I want to appeal to all of our senior pastors and general overseers to help speak to their followers. We politicians cannot do a lot. It's our time, please don't get angry."

Earlier, the Founder, The Sword of the Spirit Ministries who is also the President, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Francis Oke appreciated God for his good works and the journey thus far.
