“My mother, Mama Cass, didn’t choke on a ham sandwich”

Mama Cass Elliot's daughter of folk vocal group Mamas and the Papas, Owen Elliot-Kugell, has a clear message to share about the cause of her death mother: "There was a ham sandwich, but she didn't eat it and she didn't choke on it. So enough jokes."
And he has been the butt of many jokes for almost half a century, notably by Mike Myers as Austin Powers.
In the 1997 film, the time-switched special agent writes down a list of friends he knows in London, then writes them down when he remembers their death. After naming Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin, he sighs sadly: "Mama Cass. Died. Ham sandwich."
Cass Elliot (Mama was a nickname she preferred not to use later in her career) sang on some of the most memorable singles of the mid-aughts 60, including California Dreamin.
