Naira, fuel shortage: Police warn of protests in Ondo

Ondo State Police have warned residents against embarking on public protests over the shortage of naira banknotes and petrol in the state.

State Police Commissioner Yemi Oyediran issued the warning on Monday when he met with officials from commercial banks and distributors of petroleum products in the state.

Other attendees at the meeting include student union leaders from state colleges.

Mr. Oyediran told the meeting that the police were aware of ongoing plans for a protest in the state to register grievances about the situation.

He said thugs could hijack the protest to wreak havoc in the state.

Although there was no concrete assurance from the banks and NUPENG, the meeting agreed that the state government should set up a task force to monitor the activities of the banks and gas stations.
