NANS Diaspora Hails Tinubu, Urges Nigerians to Avoid Violence

On Thursday, the National Association of Nigerian Diaspora Students congratulated Bola Tinubu on his emergence as the elected President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The Independent National Electoral Commission on Wednesday declared the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate the winner of the February 25 general election.

The student body also commended Nigerians for their participation in the just-concluded elections and for ensuring a peaceful conduct.

The congratulatory message was included in a statement issued by its chairman, John Ogar and made available to our correspondent in Abuja.

The statement read in part: "The NANS Diaspora leadership capably led by Ogar John wishes to convey our congratulations to President-elect Ahmed Tinubu on his victory in the presidential elections which took place a fortnight ago.

"The turnout was quite large, impressive and commendable and a testament to our determination to bring about a better, productive and progressive nation of our dreams and our firm belief in our beloved nation and a demonstration of 'great love for our homeland.

"I wish to call on my compatriots to keep the peace because violence is not an option and will not address the various concerns, anger and disappointment that have resulted from the election results."

While condemning the "irregularities" that marred the elections, the NANS President urged aggrieved candidates to seek redress through legal means.

"Conversely, while condemning the flagrant irregularities that have taken place during the financial year and in the efficiency of Inec, I wish to call on all aggrieved parties to explore legal avenues for seeking redress and not not resort to violence or to words and behaviors. it can lead to the breakdown of law and order in our beloved nation. So that in the end, Nigeria will win and we will remain brothers and sisters, one undivided nation under God."
