Nations League: You surprise me - France coach Deschamps hails Man United midfielder

France manager Didier Deschamps says Manchester United attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen surprised him.

Deschamps spoke enthusiastically about the Dane and revealed he was surprised by his work rate and stamina in midfield.

Denmark play France in the Nations League on Sunday night, and prior to today Eriksen had started all six of United's Premier League appearances for Manchester United this season.

He also played in both of the club's Europa League matches, although he played with an implantable cardiac defibrillator (ICD) after suffering cardiac arrest at Euro 2020.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the Nations League clash with Denmark, the Frenchman said: "There is an attacking player who even surprised me, and not just because of what happened. past that could have been dramatic for him, and obviously it's Christian Eriksen.

"But the ability he shows with his club in the position he occupies, because he has always been someone who has remarkable technical ability.

"But to play for his club so often in midfield, to see the volume of games he plays, that very ability to recover is impressive.

"And he always had the ability to score goals, to get other players to score - he always had that."
