NDE hires 68 Anambra youths for vocational training and resettlement loan

In its pursuit of creating more decent jobs for the many unemployed Nigerians, as promised, the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has started the training of 50 people on Quick Fix demand driven skills while only 18 would benefit from the resettlement loan program.

This was revealed last weekend when Anambra State Coordinator for NDE, Ms. Chika Ufelle, was addressing the beneficiaries during the Orientation Ceremony in Awka.

Ufelle noted that the Quick Fix Demand Driven Skills training was designed to accommodate short-term job training.

“The implementation of this program in the past has been extremely successful in terms of the targets and objectives set. A good number of the graduating trainees are now self-employed. In fact, some have become employers labor.

"Participants will be trained in confectionery, barbering, tie and dye, cosmetology, bead making, Helen's knotting among others.

"The training will last 1 month during which the beneficiaries will have to acquire these marketable vocational skills for decent employment opportunities."

The coordinator further said that those who will benefit from the relocation loan program, mainly graduates of School on Wheels, SOW training, will receive materials related to the trades they have chosen.

According to her, “There will be a cash component to help them start their business immediately. Trades include catering, styling, electrical installation and make-up.”

In his earlier remarks, the Managing Director of NDE, Mallam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo, represented by Mr. Offia Obinna urged the loan recipients to make judicious and adequate use of the equipment and cash component, and to repay the loan as and when due.

"It is a fact that the negative effect of unemployment affects practically all households, therefore, you must take care of your hands and establish yourself to become employers of labor.

"Once you learn skills, you can stand on your own and that's why NDE is taking this bold step today, to train and equip you to stand on your own," said DG.

It was understood that loan recipients would have 6 months to work before repaying installments for the 3-year stretch period.

Among the equipment distributed to them are various irons, stand mixers, sewing machines, roller cookers and many more.

One of the beneficiaries, Okolo Augustine, who was trained in electrical installation, told Tribune Online "for the fact that I learned the job, the materials I was given will add more to my zeal in electrical installation and maintenance that requires surface conduit and wiring.

"I am very grateful and thank those who created this program in NDE. May God reward them."
