Ndidi eyeing full fitness ahead of Premier League start

After returning to training with Leicester City ahead of the 2022/23 season, Nigeria international Wilfred Ndidi will be hoping to be fully fit before the Premier League kicks off on August 5, reports PUNCH Sports Extra.< /p>

The midfielder, whose last Premier League appearance was against Arsenal on March 13, has been out since sustaining the injury in Leicester's 2-1 loss to Rennes in the the Europa conference. League on March 17.

The 25-year-old midfielder underwent surgery which ruled him out of the Super Eagles' two-legged African World Cup play-off against Ghana in March and was further ruled out of action by Leicester for the remainder of the season.

Before his injury, the former Genk player had played 19 top-flight matches, replacing on one occasion.

The Nigerian resumed pre-season training with Leicester last week but admitted the first week of training was a bit difficult.

"To be honest, the first week was really tough because the body is trying to adapt," Ndidi told LCFC TV.

"But I just think once the body gets used to it, it will be fine.

"I was away (on vacation) for only two weeks, I worked on the way back. It's the first week of pre-season and I'm trying to get used to training.

"I think it's really ideal for us to be here and get used to it again," Ndidi added. "Of course training in pre-season is much harder than in season. You know, it's just about working the body and getting ready.

"Of course the intensity has been unbelievable and since practice we've seen the guys push hard to be up there."

Ndidi will be hoping to be ready for action when the Foxes kick off their Championship campaign with a home game against Brentford at the King Power Stadium on August 7.
