Nigeria elected to head African Governors Forum

President Muhammadu Buhari warmly greets Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, who has been elected Chairman of the Africa Regions Forum (FORAF), in his capacity as Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) ).

The election took place after a conference in the region of Casablanca, Morocco, this weekend.

Receiving a delegation at State House on Monday consisting of Mr. Fayemi, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State and Governor Umar Ganduje of Kano State, the President said: "Despite the security concerns that we meet, it is good to see that other countries still believe in our potential. Congratulations on bringing justice to Nigeria. We thank you."

President Buhari also thanked all the other countries that lined up behind Nigeria to become FORAF Chair, noting that it was a good show of brotherhood and solidarity.

Governor Sule said the conference was attended by governors and participants from about 22 African countries, where regional issues were discussed and MoUs were signed in different areas such as agriculture, mining, education, scholarships and many more. .

He added that while Nigeria, from West Africa, clinched the presidency, vice-presidents emerged from South Africa, for Southern Africa; Kenya, East Africa; Morocco, North Africa; and Cameroon for Central Africa.

Governor Fayemi, who hands over the presidency to the next NGF president when his term expires, said FORAF's idea was for sub-nationals to become engines of growth "and reduce pressure on central governments".< /p>

He added that FORAF was a unifying force for states (known as regions, counties or provinces in other countries) "to create a globally respected continent", saying Nigeria's election was a testament to the enormous respect enjoyed by President Buhari in Africa. .

“Other countries simply withdrew their offers, once they saw that Nigeria was interested in the job,” he revealed.
