Nigeria to Collaborate with African Countries on Technology Transfer
The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Adeleke Momora said that rapid socio-economic growth of the African continent cannot be achieved without the collaboration of African countries.
Adeleke said so today when a delegation from the Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology led by NOTAP Director General Dr Dan-Azumi Ibrahim paid him a courtesy visit to his office , in Abuja.
According to him, the National Office for Technology, Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP) has the mandate for technology transfer and acquisition in Nigeria.
The Minister further stated that Nigeria operates in a global village where no one is an island all to themselves, emphasizing that African nations need to create synergies and share knowledge and experiences in order to bring about continent to greater heights.
He noted that African countries have a common history, ancestry, culture and challenges that will enhance easier synergy for the economic empowerment of the continent.
According to Adeleke, Africa is in the era of the 4th industrial revolution which is technology-driven and involves the concept of science, engineering and mathematics (STEM), pointing out that most countries in the world shift from a resource-based approach to the knowledge-based economy necessary for Africa's desired development and progress.
To this end, Dr Adeleke said that the Forum for African Research Innovation (FARI) was recently launched and Nigeria will be privileged to host the first edition in October this year.
Earlier, the Head of Delegation, Director General of NOTAP, Dr Azumi Ibrahim informed the Minister that after due consultation with the Tanzanian Commission for Science and Technology, the Agency has identified areas of collaboration which will be mutually beneficial to both countries and decided to lead them to the ministry.
Speaking also, the Director General of the Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology, Dr. Amos Muhunda Nungu informed the Minister that the purpose of the delegation visit is to seek collaboration in technology transfer with Nigeria .
