#NigeriaDecides2023: APC wins two senatorial seats as PDP lands one in Jigawa

The Independent National Election Commission (INEC) has announced the results of the three senatorial elections in Jigawa State.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) won two of the seats while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won the remaining seat, according to results announced Monday.

The commission announced Habib Mustapha of the PDP as the winner of Jigawa Southwest Senate District.

Mr. Mustapha defeated his rival, an incumbent senator from the district seeking re-election on the All Progressive Congress (APC) platform, Sabo Nakudu.

INEC returning officer Usman Haruna said Mr Mustapha received 153,731 votes against 134,802 votes for Mr Nakudu.

Meanwhile, the APC candidate in Jigawa Northwest Senatorial District, Babangida Hussaini, won the senatorial seat in his area.

He garnered 187,049 votes to defeat his rival, Saminu Turaki of the PDP, who obtained 134,199. The election result for the district was announced by the collation officer, Professor Ahmed Garko.

In addition, the APC senatorial candidate for Jigawa Northeast, Abdulhamid Mallammadori, garnered 136,977 votes to defeat his opponent, Nuraddeen Muhammad, of the PDP who obtained 107,455.
