#NigeriaElections2023: AU and ECOWAS commend police and other security agencies

The Nigerian Police, along with other security agencies deployed in the management of electoral security in the 2023 general elections, have been commended for their commitment to ensuring a secure electoral process in the country.

This mention follows the visit of the electoral observation mission of the African Union Commission and the Commission of the Economic Community of West African States to the Inspector General of the Police, Usman Baba, at Louis Edet House, Force Headquarters, Abuja on Tuesday.

The Force's public relations officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, revealed this in a statement obtained by our correspondent.

According to Adejobi, the EOM of the AUC and the ECOWAS Commission headed by a former President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta, and the former President of Sierra Leone, Ernest Koroma, composed of the President of ECOWAS, Omar Touray ; Deputy Head of EOM, Ambassador Baba Kamara; the Vice-President of the ECOWAS Commission, Damtien Tchintchibidja; and the Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security of the ECOWAS Commission, Abdel-Fatau Musah.

Adejobi said: "The Mission noted that despite pockets of incidence recorded in some of the presidential and National Assembly election venues, the electoral security management employed by the NPF and other deployed security agencies has effectively ensured a de-escalation of the immediate security challenges.

“The IG appreciated the mission for their visit and congratulations, assuring that the NPF will always do their best to ensure that more efforts are made for better and standardized election security management.< /p>

"He also urged stakeholders to follow the process even if they abide by the provisions of applicable laws in all their conducts during and after the 2023 general elections."
