Removal of subsidies: the boss of SWAGA calls for patience, understanding

The National Chairman of South West Agenda for Asiwaju, SWAGA, Senator Adedayo Adeyeye, has called for understanding following the removal of the fuel subsidy which has resulted in pain and high cost of goods and services.

The SWAGA boss was reacting to the removal of the fuel subsidy by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which saw Nigerians buying a liter of fuel for over 617 naira.

In a statement made available to DAILY POST on Sunday, he pointed out that the lack of courage to remove fuel subsidies over the past 15 years by former administrations is why Nigerians are feeling the pain now.

Adeyeye, who was spokesperson for the Senate in the 9th National Assembly, assured that the situation will soon ease as measures are put in place to ensure mitigation measures.

The statement reads: "The removal of oil subsidies and President Bola Tinubu's new exchange rate regime for now has resulted in inflationary pressures. This is causing hardship for the masses.

"As the saying goes, there is no gain without pain. As the President said, while trying to give birth, one has to go through labor pains, but when the child is born, safe birth will keep the mother happy."

He urged Nigerians to see President Tinubu's economic reforms as the best decision in the interest of the nation.

He predicted that over the next year, the results of the subsidy removal would manifest.

"The President has only been in office for about 60 days. He still has more than 46 months to go in his first 48-month term, having only served two.

"President Bola Tinubu is making decisions that should have been made more than 15 years ago.

“Nigerians should give President Tinubu time to allow his policies to mature and for us to start seeing the positive effects,” he said.
