Nigerian comedian renovates alma mater and pays tribute to his teachers

A Nigerian comedian, Bovi Ugboma, unveiled buildings he renovated for his alma mater – the University of Benin Staff School, Benin, Edo State.

Mr. Bovi, 42, handed over a 20-classroom with a capacity of 430 people, two staff rooms and a library to the school management on Monday, which he renovated and furnished.

The project was commissioned by Edo State Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu and attended by the university's Vice Chancellor, Lilian Salami.

Mr. Bovi, a theater arts graduate from Delta State University, is a stand-up comedian. He has been active on stage since 2007.

The comedian, who is also an actor and writer, took to his Instagram page to pay tribute to his teachers whom he credits with "who he is today".

He described his alma mater as one of the best, but said he was saddened and "broken inside" when he visited the institution and saw "the degenerative state facilities".

"Those who know me well know that I have always recognized my primary school for what I have become. I consider my fundamental journey to be lucky because I had the best teachers on my journey from kindergarten to fifth grade primary.

"They were so good that I remember all their names to this day.

"It was a prestigious institution sitting on one hectare of land. It is triple the size of many educational institutions today. It was a school of international standards that only a few private schools can match. brag today.

"So you can imagine my sadness when I visited the institution and saw the degenerative state of the facilities. I broke inside. That's why I've spent the last three months visiting carefully the twenty classroom blocks, the two staff rooms and a library. In this building."

He shared a video showing what school was like before and after his intervention.

The comedian did not reveal how much money he spent to renovate the building.

Comedian Francis Agoda, who goes by the stage name 'I'm going to die', took to his Instagram page to congratulate Bovi on his gesture.
