Nigerians have every reason to celebrate Buhari – Garba Shehu

The President's Senior Special Assistant for Media, Garba Shehu, has claimed that Nigerians have every reason to celebrate Muhammadu Buhari's administration, insisting that he has done reasonably well.

He also said that Buhari's government had done so much to keep Nigerians away from the excessive heat that accompanied Covid and the Ukraine-Russia war.

Shehu made the statement on Thursday when he appeared on Arise Television's Morning Show.

He insisted that the global cost of living crisis was not limited to Nigeria alone, adding that other economies were also feeling the effects.

"Let me tell you, as a government, we think we've done reasonably well. We've delivered on all the major promises this administration made before it took office. And those things are key security issues. We know what this country was like when we arrived. This country was split in two; we had a caliphate carved out of this country by Boko haram with a flag of their own, a system of administration, with their own taxation system and all that; 17 of the 27 local councils in Borno state were in this republic. All that has changed, so don't say we haven't achieved anything.

"And when you mentioned all those things about inflation, listen, please understand that there is a global crisis going on, a global cost of living crisis that is not limited to everything just not in nigeria everyone is affected whether it's from things that have emanated from the covid crisis we know what he's done every economy in the world everyone maybe china , had entered negative numbers in terms of development.

"And then one of the things about the war between Ukraine and Russia, with all its implications for us here, whether it's fertilizer and agriculture or fuel that we import from one part of the world, happens to everyone. And I tell you this country, when you compare that with what is happening in West Africa, across the continent, I think Nigerians have all the reason to celebrate this administration we have not done as badly as everyone else in fact this government has done so much to keep Nigerians away and take us out of the excessive heat that has come with these crises, Covid in particular and the war Ukraine-Russia,” he said.
