NNPP leads APC in Kano government elections as INEC suspends declaration of results
Ahmad Doko, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) filing officer for the Kano gubernatorial election, announced a two-hour break to cross-check the election results ahead of the final declaration.
Mr. Doko announced the decision after receiving the election results from all 44 local government areas in the state.
Opposition New Nigeria People Party (NNPP) candidate Abba Kabir, garnered 1,019,700 votes against All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Nasir Gawuna, who garnered 890,705 votes.

The returning officer's postponement of the announcement for a two-hour break was met with an outcry from NNPP officers who alleged the results reporting process could be compromised.
The NNPP also expressed suspicion that the election could be declared inconclusive as happened in the 2019 election.
However, Mr Doko said he would have to carefully cross-check reported incidents of violence and excessive voting before declaring the winner under the 2022 Elections Act.
He said he would resume at 5 a.m. to make the closing statement.
