No Ogoni candidate can win 2023 guber poll, parent tells Abe, others

One group, Sim Vanguard, has said that no candidate for governor of Ogoniland has the ability to win the 2023 elections in Rivers State.

The group urged the Ogoni not to be influenced by the promises of the candidates but to vote for a governorship capable of winning the election to attract development to their region.

A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader from Ogoniland, Marvin Yorbana, told reporters in Port Harcourt that with the level of underdevelopment in the region, it was relevant for the Ogoni to s align with an individual who can emerge victorious and positively impact people.

Yorbana, a former youth leader, pointed out that no key Ogoni group, be it the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) or Kagote, which represents the three Ogoni councils, would endorse the one of the candidates for governor of Ogoni. ethnic nationality because they know the implications.

This is, however, against previous lamentations by the Ogoni, MOSOP and Kagote groups that it would be a grave political injustice and serious marginalization if no indigenous Ogoni are considered to govern the state in the election of the state. next year.

MOSOP had lamented that since the creation of the state 55 years ago, no Ogoni indigenous people had become governor, deputy governor, president or chief justice of the state.

The groups argued that, for fairness, fair play and justice, 2023 should be considered Ogoni's turn. Candidates for Ogoni Governorship include: Senator Magnus Abe of the Social Democratic Party (PDP); Dr. Lessi Gborogbosi, Action Peoples Party (APP), while the Labor Party chose Kaninee Barikpoa as its running mate for its gubernatorial candidate and the APC chose Innocent Bariate Barikor, Lecturer in the Department of Political Science/Administration from the University of Port Harcourt as Tonye Cole's Deputy Governor candidate.

But Yobana said, "In every election, there is always an Ogoni man running for governor, but the problem is what are his chances of winning?

While announcing his group's support for PDP gubernatorial candidate Siminialayi Fubara, Yobana said he was confident that Fubara would not discriminate in his development plans.

Making a veiled reference to Magnus Abe, he said: "One of the people running for governor of Ogoni has been in government for a long time, can you mention one thing he did, but the Ogoni Sim Vanguard for Fubara is based on the skill, commitment and development of Ogoniland.”

He praised Governor Nyesom Wike for extending development projects to the Ogoni people, even when he did not get their support.
