North Carolina House passes bill to commission Bitcoin ownership study
The study would examine the possible impact of holding crypto and how the state would hold digital currency.
News Join us on social networksA bill that would see the North Carolina State Department Treasurer study the feasibility and benefits of state ownership of Bitcoin (BTC) has passed the lower house of the General Assembly .
On June 28, the North Carolina House of Representatives passed the bill that would commission a $50,000 study to examine "the acquisition, secure storage, insurance, and liquidation" of both gold bars and "virtual currencies [...] such as Bitcoin."
The study would examine the impact gold and cryptocurrency holdings would have if North Carolina held a portion of its funds in crypto and gold.
Specifically, he would research whether these holdings would hedge against inflation and “systemic credit risk,” and whether gold and crypto could reduce volatility, thereby increasing government portfolio returns.
