NPC launches campaign to curb population explosion

The National Population Commission has launched the Revised National Population Policy Strategic Implementation Plan by the Population Advisory Group to control population growth and fertility in the country.< /p>

Speaking at the launch in Abuja on Thursday, APN President Nasir Isa-Kwarra noted that the document will contribute to effective population management.

The document linked all sectors and other population and development issues to the National Population Policy.

He highlighted the role of relevant stakeholders in updating the plan.

"Implementation of the strategic plan will require elaborate, consistent, sustained and well-coordinated stakeholder engagement and commitments at all levels, including effective collaboration and partnerships," said the president of the NPC,

Isa-Kwarra spoke about the need for funding to ensure that the objectives of the plan were met.

He said, “We need money (domestic and donors) to adequately fund the implementation of the Strategic Plan. I hereby call on the Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning to provide sufficient funds to sectors and coordination activities; while I call on donors and partners to include funding for the Strategic Plan in the budgetary provisions of their respective annual country program for Nigeria. »

Also speaking at the launch, Spokesperson for the Population Advisory Group, Usman Sarki, spoke about the essence of the plan.

He said, "The Revised National Population Policy and Strategic Implementation Plan are the guidelines for effective population management and census conduct in the country. The plans and strategies With regard to human capital development, the effective implementation of social and economic policies and the extension of services such as education, health care and housing to Nigerians will depend on the successful achievement of national population policy objectives revised and strategic implementation plan. .

“The role of the PAG therefore; will be to provide expert advice to take advantage of the services and facilities available in various funds, programs and agencies of multilateral bodies such as the United Nations and international financial institutions such as the World Bank, African Development Bank, among others.

"Adequate resources for the implementation of the strategic plan and the overall work of the NPC will be critical to achieving the federal government's objectives of conducting a credible, objective, scientific, impartial, legitimate and successful national population and housing census in 2023."
