NPC begins trial census in Anambra

In preparation for the first all-digital census in 2023, the National Population Commission (NPC) will begin its trial census on Wednesday, in Anambra State.

Brieving reporters at the Commission's Awka Boardroom on Tuesday, the Federal Commissioner, representing Anambra State, Mr. Chidi Ezeoke, said the exercise would take place in the seven designated towns; Akwukwu, Akwa-Etiti, Alor, Nnokwa, Nobi, Oba and Ojoto in Idemili South State Local Government Area.

He said the exercise was another key preparatory activity for the main census scheduled for April 2023.

Ezeoke, disclosed that the commission has trained 1,146 enumerators and local government supervisors to conduct the exercise in the aforementioned local government area of ​​the state.

The commissioner noted that the trial would be conducted in the 7,718 enumeration areas selected across the country to test the adequacy and readiness of the census in 2023.

He explained that the exercise would allow the commission to test all aspects of census operations, from planning to implementation, organization and management of logistics, questionnaire design and format , training procedures, field operations, advertising, payment system, data processing, tabulation and data analysis.

"Test census, also known as "census dress rehearsal", is another key census preparatory activity. It is a process in which all census operations are extensively tested and This takes place as a matter of good practice about a year before the actual census date, to assess the scenario that may be presented during the main census.''

He added that the cooperation and support of stakeholders and the general public is essential for the success of the census trial and that the Commission, under the chairmanship of Hon. Nasir Isa Kwarra, has put in place elaborate provisions for advocacy and publicity. .
