NSCDC boss orders immediate surgery for staff involved in car crash

The Commanding General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has ordered the immediate start of the required surgery for one of its members involved in an accident while 'he was on official duty.

This was contained in a statement on Monday by the Director of Public Relations, NSCDC, Mr. Olusola Odumosu and made available to journalists in Abuja.

According to Odumosu, the NSCDC boss gave the directive during a scheduled visit to National Hospital Abuja to personally review and assess the patient's condition and progress with their treatments so far.

He further disclosed that one of the victims, ASC II Ibrahim Adam (40), was among the Lagos State Command personnel involved in a fatal road accident at Giri Junction , Abuja, Friday, February 24, 2023, a day before presidential and parliamentary elections that resulted in the death of one of the occupants shortly after takeoff from Corps Headquarters.

Affirming its commitment to the welfare of its staff, the CG has directed the NSCDC Medical and Health Services Unit Chief, Dr. Oba Jude (DCC), who has been appointed to oversee and coordinate the treatment of the victim, to ensure that due attention is given to the officer who has been diagnosed with spinal cord injury with multiple fractures.

The CG welcomed reports that staff are responding to treatment and reassured that they are ready to pay the bills incurred for officers' treatments.

The NSCDC boss reiterated that his main concern was getting the officers back on their feet.

"They are all dedicated and committed agents and my main concern is to heal them all and get them back on their feet.

"I have noticed that there are signs and hope for more significant improvement when the proposed surgery is performed.

"I am prepared to pay the bills for the surgery and other associated treatments, regardless of the cost," CG said.

Audi encouraged the patient who was overjoyed to see the CG at his bedside in the hospital to continue to believe in God who will heal him completely, praying that such an incident would not happen again in the Corps.

The GC consoled the family members of the victims and urged them to remain in prayer for God to fully perfect their healing as the Corps plays its own part in caring for the victims.

The other 5 personnel injured in the accident had been released after a significant improvement in their condition.
