OAU to graduate 5,852 students, 130 first class bags

Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, said 5,852 students from various fields will graduate in the university's 46th convocation.

Of these, 4,114 hold a bachelor's degree in the classified category.

This was revealed by the university's vice-chancellor, Professor Siméon Bamiré, during a pre-convening press briefing held on the institution's campus on Monday.

Bamiré, while giving classes of marks obtained by the students, said that 130 would get the first class, while another 1,323 would make the second class (Honours, Upper Division).

According to him, another 1,991 would graduate from second class (Honours, Lower Division), while 636 would graduate from third class (Honours).

He said: "For this year's convocation, we have a total of 5,852 graduates, with the following distribution; In bachelors, classified, we have 130 first class (with distinction), while that 1,323 made the second class (with distinction, upper division).

"In the second class (Honours, Lower division) we have 1,991 graduands and in the third class (Honours) we have 636, while 34 graduands are in the pass category. In all, we have 4,114 graduates of this Bachelor, ranked.

"However, in bachelor's degrees, unclassified, which include graduates of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, the Faculty of Clinical Sciences and, of course, the Faculty of Dentistry. Even graduates of our distance learning center also fall into this category. In this group, we have seven graduates who passed with distinction, while 28 fall under passing with distinction. 444 have passed with Pass with Credit and 486 with Pass This makes us have 965 in this unclassified category.

"For postgraduate graduates, we have 17 postgraduate degrees, 403 professional masters and 200 masters with research thesis. Although we have 20 under a master of philosophy, the total number of our Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) graduates is 61. In total, we have 712 graduates in this category.”

He added that the institution places great importance on the well-being and success of its students, hence the urgency to release the students, whose results had been approved by the University Senate after the suspension of the strike initiated by members of the Academic Union of University Staff.
