Obi warns LP supporters and candidates against insulting others

Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has warned his supporters, commonly known as 'Obidients', and candidates running under the party at all levels, to refrain from insulting others during campaigns .

The presidential candidate was specifically referring to a comment made by the LP gubernatorial candidate in Benue describing Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom as a “deceit”.

Obi, who made the call via his Twitter account on Friday night, urged his supporters and LP candidates to stick to thematic campaigns and refrain from name-calling and derogatory statements against others .

He said, "Nigeria has very big problems and is currently in danger of implosion due to economic difficulties and insecurity. The focus should therefore be on how to deal with the deleterious consequences of a collapsing economy, widespread insecurity and the many other challenges facing the nation rather than escalate into name-calling.

"Specifically during our recent campaign in Benue, a candidate called the Governor of Benue State, Dr. Samuel Ortom, 'cheating'. This is completely unacceptable to us."

Obi further stated that everyone has their faults and shortcomings including himself, while adding that Ortom has always been a patriotic Nigerian.

He tweeted: "The Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, remains a very patriotic Nigerian, who has always spoken for the sake of his people and Nigeria in general. We all have our faults, j I have mine, and so do others. But we shouldn't refer to people in such a derogatory way.

“I call on the Labor Party faithful, especially candidates at all levels, including my supporters, to refrain from insulting or disparaging anyone, groups of people or religions.

>

“I wish all our candidates, myself included, good luck in the upcoming elections,” he added.
