Police kill 54 bandits, save 122 kidnapping victims and make 1,102 arrests in Katsina

According to the Katsina State Police Command, from January to December 2022, 1,102 people were arrested in connection with 705 reported crimes.

The Command also said that during the specified period, its agents neutralized 54 bandits, freed 122 abductees and recovered 35 rifles, including 14 AK-47s and 19 locally produced weapons, from criminals terrorizing the state.

The announcement was made by CP Shehu Umar Nadada, state police commissioner, to reporters on Tuesday during a press conference held at the command headquarters to close the year.

In addition, 46 victims of human trafficking were released in four documented cases and have since been handed over to NAPTIP for further investigation, according to the police chief.

Other arrests made by the command during the reporting period include those of 177 suspects of armed robbery, 71 suspects of vandalism, and 21 suspects of trafficking and supplying illegal drugs to bandits.

Nadada further revealed that 989 of the 1,102 people who had been detained are currently being tried in various state-sanctioned courts.

On the other hand, Area Commander Dutsinma, ACP Aminu Umar and five other police officers paid the ultimate price during the campaign, according to Nadada, as the command lost one of its best commanders in the struggle against terrorism in the state. .

Nadada took the opportunity to express his gratitude to IGP Usman Alkali Baba for his incredible support to the Command, without which he says the Command would not have had major victories.

The state government and the two state emirate councils were also commended for their collaboration and benevolent leadership.
