Wilko Johnson's choppy guitar style defined the band's Dr Feelgood sound.

< p class="ssrcss -1q0x1qg-Paragraph eq5iqo00">Once dubbed "Britain's finest live band", the Feelgoods have stripped music down to the bare essentials with their unique style of rhythm and blues.

< p class="ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph eq5iqo00" >They formed at a time when progressive rock was on the rise and their high-energy gigs paved the way for punk.

Johnson was kicked out of the band in 1977 after a row, although avid fans spent the next four decades speculating on his return.

He then joined Ian Dury and the Blockheads, before embarking on a successful solo career. Johnson also appeared in the first two series of the fantasy television series Game Of Thrones, playing mute executioner Ser Ilyn Payne.

In 2013, he was diagnosed with with cancer and announced a farewell tour.

But two years later he declared he was cancer free, after the doctors removed a 3kg tumor in an 11-hour operation.
