Ogun 2023: PDP, LP missing, like Abiodun, others make INEC list

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday released a list of 13 gubernatorial candidates and their parties in Ogun State, the flag bearers of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labor Party (LP) being conspicuously absent.

INEC previously said Labor had not submitted its list of candidates by the deadline.

But the party pledged to challenge the case in court saying it had submitted it electronically.

When contacted, the party's national publicity secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, said, "We are in court and the case will be decided in court in October."

The state's Resident Election Commission (REC), Niyi Iyalaje, told reporters that the list displayed was the one authorized by the INEC headquarters in Abuja.

In the list obtained by PREMIUM TIMES on Tuesday afternoon, the PDP was listed as number 21, but the names of the gubernatorial candidate and running mate were missing.

The commission cited "the court order" as the reason for the omission from the final list.

Last Tuesday, a Federal High Court in Abeokuta nullified the PDP guber primaries in the state and ordered a new one.

The court also barred INEC from recognizing Ladi Adebutu, who was on the initial INEC slate, as a candidate for the party's governorship in the state.

The plaintiffs had sued the party, Mr. Adebutu, and the INEC, challenging the authenticity of the lists of delegates used for the conduct of the primaries.

Contacted to respond, PDP spokesman Akinloye Bankole said the party's flag bearers were missing from the INEC list because the election arbiter obeyed the court order.< /p>

"We have appealed the judgment and await the Court of Appeal's decision on the matter."

Some of the candidates listed by INEC include Governor Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress; Biyi Otegbeye, African Democratic Congress (ADC); and Oguntoyinbo Femi Ajadi for the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP), among others.
