OSIEC President Segun Oladitan at a press conference attended by the newly elected Presidents, Vice Presidents and Councilors at the OSIEC premises in Osogbo, said the APC was the only party to have taken part in the election.

He declared and re-elected the 393 councilors unopposed, having satisfied the requirements of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), the Electoral Act 2022 and the Commission Act Osun State Independent Election, 2022.

Oladitan declared 69 presidents alongside their duly elected vice, having been subject to YES or NO votes in their respective councils, LCDAs and regional councils.

However, the OSIEC President did not give figures on the votes cast but said that all Presidents and Vice Presidents-elect received at least a third of the votes cast in the election in each at least two-thirds of all regional council wards in accordance with Section 106(1)(a) and (b) of the Elections Act 2022.

He presented certificates of return to all new council officials from 30 local councils, 32 LCDAs and seven regional offices. He admitted indirectly that there had been voter apathy in the council election, but said the commission should not be blamed for it.< /p>

He said political parties should be blamed for not mobilizing the people of the state to actively participate in the elections, saying it was not the duty of the election management body to raise awareness people to participate in the elections. Oladitan said there were no legal inhibitions preventing OSIEC from conducting the polls.
