Osinbajo Praises Nigerian Breweries as Plateau Teacher Wins 2022 Maltina-Teacher-Of-Year Award

The Vice President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, on Friday evening in Lagos congratulated the Nigerian Breweries Plc for instituting the Maltina Teacher-of-the-Year (MTOY) awards, saying that the he initiative is yielding excellent results not only in the teaching and education sector but also in the economy as a whole.

He was praised at the grand finale of this year's edition of the award, the eighth in the series, held in Lekki and with Elder Felix Ohiwerei, former president of Nigerian Breweries Plc, receiving the company recognition award at the event.

Osinbajo, who described the enormous impacts his teachers had on him, especially during his high school years, said it was a commendable initiative to identify and celebrate the nation's outstanding teachers.

He said he received last year's award winner, a teacher from Adamawa State, in his office to celebrate his achievement.

The MTOY Award is an initiative of the Nigerian Breweries Plc domiciled under its humanitarian arm -Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund, to identify and showcase engaged and hardworking secondary school teachers nationally and through therefore, uplifting the education sector and the economy as a whole.

It has produced seven past winners and a teacher from Plateau State, Alaku Ayiwulu, became the current and eighth winner of the award.

Ayiwulu, a professor at Federal Government College in Jos, beat out 1,026 other competitors from just 30 states in the federation who submitted entries this year.

The second and third winners from the top nine remaining, who reached the final round in Lagos, are Musa Saidu from Borno State and Ifeoma Stella from Enugu State respectively.

Me Ayiwulu has been awarded a total of 6.5 million naira for his efforts and will also benefit from all fees paid for a short course program abroad and other benefits.

Speaking separately earlier, Chairman of Nigerian Breweries, Chef Kolawole Jamodu and General Affairs Manager, Sade Morgan stressed that the initiative of the award is to recognize hard work and the diligence of teachers and celebrating them to boost their morale and their colleagues for the improvement of performance and by extension, the development of the country's education.

While congratulating the independent judging panel that evaluated this year's 1,027 entrants for their thorough and well-done work and commending the winner and his colleagues for their achievements, they pledged that the company would continue to add value to the teaching profession, the education sector and the economy as a whole.

Also speaking at the event, the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by the Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, also commended Nigerian Breweries for what he called their huge investment in Nigerian teachers and the education sector as a whole through the award.

However, he urged teachers across the country to always see and treat their students as their own children and do everything possible to train them to succeed in their studies and other values required to become someone in life.

He congratulated the new MTOY award winner and everyone else who entered the contest, asking them not to rest on their oars.
