The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has instructed the State Health Commissioner, Dr Ngozi Okoronkwo, to ensure that a motorcyclist, Orji Felix, injured by a van from the government, receive the best medical care at no cost to him or his family.

The governor also ordered the immediate suspension of the driver, Onyebuchi Steven, attached to his convoy, involved in an accident with a motorcyclist in Ohafia local government on Sunday, pending an investigation.

A statement from the governor's chief press secretary, Mr. Kazie Uko, said on Monday that the investigation was aimed at establishing the driver's culpability in the incident.

The statement adds that Steven, who was driving a Toyota Hilux pickup truck, allegedly collided with Felix, who had just picked up a passenger at the side of the road and was about to drive off.

Uko revealed that the motorcyclist and his passenger were quickly rescued and taken to a hospital near the scene of the accident.

The statement read: “While the passenger was being treated for minor injuries at a local hospital in Ohafia and was being discharged, Felix, according to the Health Commissioner, Dr Ngozi Okoronkwo, suffered multiple fractures to his left leg and right arm.

“The 18-year-old rider Okada was then transported in an ambulance from Ohafia to the Federal Medical Center in Umuahia, after being treated by Dr. Okoronkwo, who administered first aid and bandaged his injured leg. arms.

“Felix is ​​currently admitted to Crowther, FMC, where he is recovering. The nurses on duty on Sunday evening described his condition as "very stable".

“The patient, who is now receiving full medical attention, was seen interacting and answering questions posed to him. "The pain is not very strong anymore," he replied when asked about the pain in his left leg.

The commissioner, who returned to the hospital on Sunday evening to monitor the patient's progress, thanked the nurses on duty for taking good care of him. Dr. Okoronkwo reiterated the governor's directive that the patient should be properly cared for.
