Owen claims Liverpool sign 'world beaters' in Man Utd digs; Bellingham discusses transfer links

Michael Owen has defended Liverpool by comparing how they and Man Utd have fared in the transfer market, as Jurgen Klopp's side sign 'world beaters'.

Liverpool were questioned at the start of this season as they suffered disappointing defeats against Manchester United and Napoli.

The Reds spent big on signing Darwin Nunez this summer and they also brought in Arthur Melo, Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay.

What fool promises the best behavior of 50,000 Liverpool fans to the readers of the Daily Mail?

Liverpool's track record in the transfer market is better than that of most clubs. They often show patience and restraint while waiting for their primary targets to become available.

Man Utd, meanwhile, tend to be more frantic when doing their business. The signings of Antony, Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez have taken their summer spending spree to over £200million.

Liverpool currently sit two places and three points behind Man Utd in the table. Last time out they were beaten 4-1 by Napoli in the Champions League group stage.

Discussing this display, Owen decided to take aim at Man Utd:

"It's very rare that five players play well and five players stink the place, you normally play well as a team and badly as a team - it affects everyone," Owen told BT Sport.

"When there's no pressing up front, all of a sudden the defense looks vulnerable and then they make mistakes, it's a chain reaction.

“Liverpool over the years no matter who they signed have been world beaters then teams like Manchester United over the last 10 years no matter who they signed look like n never played football before that changes now.

"But what I'm trying to say is that it's very easy to bring a player to the team or all the players play well at the same time. It's a team game .

"We saw that with Liverpool they either play well or they flounder like they did the other night [against Napoli]."

Jude Bellingham is a potential target with whom Liverpool continue to be linked.

The Englishman is expected to be available next summer and Fabrizio Romano has hinted the midfielder will be at the center of a transfer saga.

Bellingham's Borussia Dortmund travel to take on Man City at the Etihad on Wednesday night. Before this match, he insisted that he was "focused" on performing well for the German team:

"First of all, I'm here to help Borussia Dortmund win the game. If I can play well and show my skills, that's a bonus," Bellingham told reporters.

"But I'm here to win for Borussia Dortmund and I'm very happy here at the moment and I'm focused on all the goals we have as a team and I'm not looking beyond that.

“The club has done a lot for me and made me feel welcome since I arrived and given me the opportunity to develop even more. Looking beyond that and looking to the future would be disrespectful.

"It's not something I think about, to be honest.

"It's a huge game against Man City. Even to think of something like that would be crazy."
