Oyo: Sacked Vice Governor Blames CJ, Alleges Compromise

The sacked Oyo State Deputy Governor, Rauf Olaniyan, has blamed the state Chief Justice, Justice Munta Abimbola, for assembling the seven-man panel that recommended his removal.

Olaniyan, in a statement on Monday from his lawyer, Afolabi Fashanu (SAN), alleged that the panel investigating the allegations against him was paid to do what he did.

Describing this panel as a charade, he said it couldn't stand the test of time.

He said it was unfortunate that the panel members allowed themselves to be compromised and were used to doing dirty work.

The statement reads: "The investigation by the committee set up by the Honorable Chief Justice is a charade that cannot stand the test of time. At trial, the Honorable Justice chief, with all due respect, violated his oath of office by ignoring service of the notice of appeal and the request for injunction pending appeal when he proceeded to constitute the committee of inquiry .

"This is against established law and practice. On behalf of the panel, they were appointed and paid to do bodge work, which must be against good conscience.

"They served the Deputy Governor on Friday around 10:45 a.m. and asked him to report at 11 a.m. We wrote to inform them that His Excellency needed time to prepare for his defense, in their desperation to make the work for which they were paid, they rejected the letter, sat down on Saturday and finished their task the same day.

"Where is the fairness here? Committee members are supposed to be men above the board. You have a reverend father, a Jerusalem pilgrim, and an Alhaji among them. That's proof obvious that we are not yet ripe for democratic practice."

The PUNCH reported that the Oyo State Assembly dismissed Olaniyan on Monday morning following misconduct and a series of allegations against him.< /p>
