…Aggrieved members will not destroy the party – Okowa

People's Democratic Party Vice Presidential Candidate Senator Ifeanyi Okowa says there is no doubt that aggrieved PDP members will not destroy the party as they act together to come to terms with themselves on the small issues that remain for the time being.

Okowa was speaking while briefing reporters after a reconciliation meeting with Acting Chairman of the PDP Board, Senator Adolphus Wabara, at the Delta State Governor's Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja on Saturday.

The PDP has not known peace since Rivers State Governor Nyesome Wike failed to become the party's presidential candidate in Atiku Abubakar and was subsequently overlooked for Vice President in consideration of Governor of Delta State.

Wike also claimed that the party was heavily dominated by a section of the country in its leadership structure calling for the resignation of the party's national chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, for balance, the fairness, and justice in the party.

The vice-presidential candidate further said that there were discussions among the governors on how to reconcile the issues, believing that much had been done.

''They are party members, there is no doubt they will work for the party because this is the house they belong to and I believe they will not destroy it.

“We are talking to each other, I think there is still a little work to do but a lot has been done. There are still issues to deal with, which is why you saw the visit of party leaders and the board.

The vice-presidential candidate pointed out "where we are now is quite difficult for the country, we have never been so divided, the level of insecurity and our economy are most affected, we have never been so bad.

When you look at education issues and the situation in various states, they have become obvious issues of major concern.

"We do not want those who will come to the office and start learning on the job, we are in a critical position, therefore, we need an experienced man who also has the level of humility and calm, detribalized and ready to bring Nigerians together. Because until we understand, whether you are Christian or Muslim, if we don't reach that level, we may not be able to get Nigeria out of where it is now.

"I believe Atiku Abubakar is the answer for Nigeria, as he has made a very clear commitment to Nigerians in his document, 'My Covenant with Nigerians', others are still pondering to what they are going to do.

Earlier in his address, Acting BoT Chairman Senator Wabara explained that the Special Reconciliation Committee had met with the party's vice-presidential candidate to propose solutions to the current crisis of the party.

He said the reconciliation committee is making progress and will meet the party's presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, then the governor of Rivers State after meeting governors Samuel Ortom, Seyi Makinde, Ikeazu Ikpeazu and Ifeanyi Ugwanyi, emphasizing that they have what it takes to solve the problems.

"The Special Reconciliation Committee of the Board of Directors visits our party's vice-presidential candidate on the current crisis that is rocking our party and also offers solutions to these problems, we are properly briefed by the Delta State Governor.

‘’The committee is well informed on the issues and we are moving forward. As I said last time, we went around, met most of the governors. We will also meet our Principal anytime and finally meet Governor Wike in Port Harcourt.
