On June 22 this year, the Labor Party presidential candidate visited the governor and held a closed meeting.

Residents and social media users have expressed mixed reactions to the growing political connection between Wike and Obi, as photographs of said meeting are currently going viral, describing it as a good development.

Obi's visit comes amid an escalating crisis between Governor Wike and the People's Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, following the result of the party's presidential election and his choice of Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate.

The fallout between Atiku and Wike continued to grow despite the peace initiative of the party board and other leaders.
