Police confirm abduction of Cross River YPP deputy government candidate

Cross State Police Command has confirmed the kidnapping of Youth Party Vice-Governor candidate Mr. Agbor Onyi.

Command spokeswoman SP Irene Ugbo told reporters Friday in Calabar that Onyi and three other people were abducted along the Calabar-Ogoja highway.

She said that among those abducted was an assistant superintendent of immigration, Imojara Imojara.

Ugbo said the four were on their way to Northern Cross River for Saturday's election when they were abducted on Thursday evening.

"The victims were traveling in a Toyota Corolla when the kidnappers stopped the vehicle and took them into the forest.

"One of the occupants, Ms. Sandara Egbung, is the wife of an aide to Governor Ben Ayade," the police spokesperson added.

Ugbo, however, said the Command was working tirelessly to secure their release.

“The Police Commissioner for Elections has ordered drastic action to be taken. It is being worked on. Hope and pray that by Saturday all will be well,” she added.< /p>

A source who requested anonymity said the kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of 60 million naira, which they later reduced to 40 million naira.
