SSANIP at FG: Removing Contentious Guidelines for Polytechnic Appointments

The Association of Senior Managers of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP) has called on the Federal Government to withdraw the new guidelines for the appointment of key officials of polytechnics in the country.

This was in a statement signed by SSANIP National President Comrade Philip Ogunsipe that the guidelines contravene the service programs in place at these institutions.

Ogunsipe lamented that the Federal Ministry of Education, which is the oversight institution in charge of harmonizing polytechnic service programs to ensure quality assurance, has become an obstacle in the wheels of development of polytechnics in Nigeria.

Ogunsipe noted with dismay that the government, through its agencies, had been largely responsible for the systemic failure in the education sector, causing persistent labor disputes in higher education institutions.

SSANIP therefore called on the Ministry of Education to immediately withdraw the "contentious guidelines" for the appointments of key polytechnic officials.

The association recalled with regret that the ministry had previously admitted, during a meeting with it, "that the supervisory body for polytechnics, the National Council for Technical Education, (NBTE) is better placed to deal with the matter only so that he can "continue with this anomaly."

SSANIP also called on the head of service of the Federation to urgently publish the service patterns and conditions of polytechnics and related institutions.

The union added that such steps, if taken immediately, would go a long way to harmonizing the conflicting directives.

Ogunsipe reminded the Federal Government to recall the agreements reached in a meeting with the Government where it was decided that 15 billion naira, although not enough, should be disbursed to the sector with a plea for that the agreement be honored by the federal government.

SSANIP further implored the Federal Ministry of Education and other relevant authorities to heed its pleas and difficulties in order to avoid another labor dispute in the education sector.< /p>
