Plateau police foiled an attempt by gunmen to abduct Yakubu Sanda, the Plateau Assembly speaker, an official said.

Plateau Police Public Relations Officer Alfred Alabo revealed this in a statement to Jos on Sunday.

According to Mr. Alabo, the incident occurred Friday evening at the President's residence in the lower-cost federal area, Jos South Local Government Area of ​​the state.

He said it took the bravery of security officers on duty at the speaker's residence and the timely intervention of other officers from Rantya Division to thwart the attempt.

"On Friday at approximately 11:20 p.m. as the President arrived at his residence at Federal Low-cost in Jos-sud, three unidentified gunmen operating in an ash-colored CRV jeep, followed him to his residence and attempted to enter his house to kidnap him.

"But their mission was rendered impossible by the fearless police officers on duty and the quick response of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Rantya Division, SP Ayuba Iliya and his men, who joined forces with the watchmen and repelled the evil deed.

“However, the command is making concerted efforts to track down the fleeing suspects and have them arrested,” he said.

Mr. Alabo said state police commissioner Bartholomew Onyeka, who pledged to stem the tide of criminal activity in the state, thanked members of the public for providing police with timely information. on security breaches in their various communities for prompt action.
