Police investigate death of man found decomposing in his bedroom

Lagos Police have opened an investigation into the death of a 45-year-old man whose decomposing body was discovered in his flat in the Idimu area of ​​the state.

Lagos Police Command spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin made the revelation to reporters on Sunday.

Mr. Hundeyin said the landlord of the deceased invited the police when he had not seen the tenant for three days.

He said the Idimu Divisional Police Officer (DPO) got the information around 12:00 on Thursday.

"The landlord reported to the police that he went to his apartment, knocked and discovered the door locked from the inside.

"Based on the report, a team of detectives from Idimu were mobilized to the scene.

"Her door was forced open where her decomposing body was found.

"The police photographed his body and evacuated it to the IDH morgue in Yaba for an autopsy," he said.

Mr. Hundeyin said another death was recorded at a pool located in CAPPA Oshodi, involving an as yet unidentified young man, who drowned in the pool.

He said officials from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) reported the case to Olosan Police Division, Mushin on October 10 at around 7.30am.

Mr. Hundeyin said the report revealed that on October 9, around 11:40 p.m., the deceased simply identified as Andrew, drowned in a swimming pool.

"The victim was rushed to the LASEMA office where his death was confirmed.

"Based on the report, a team of police visited and photographed the scene.

“The team also visited the LASEMA office where photographs of the deceased were taken, the corpse was deposited at IDH Yaba for autopsy,” he said.

Mr. Hundeyin said the case is being investigated.

The spokesperson also said there was a case of suspected suicide of a 37-year-old man reported to Akinpelu Police Division on Friday around 6:05 p.m.

He explained that a distress call had been received indicating that the deceased had hanged himself in his room located in Oshodi.

Mr. Hundeyin said based on the report, police detectives were mobilized to the scene.

"Upon arrival, the team encountered the lifeless body hanging from a rope, attached to the ceiling fan, anchored in the room.

"Detectives have photographed the scene and evacuated the corpse to the IDH morgue, Yaba, for an autopsy, while the investigation continues," he said. (NAN)
