Police launch manhunt for ex-con who allegedly raped 12-year-old girl to death

Former inmate Mercy Orija allegedly raped 12-year-old student Janet Fakeye to death in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

PREMIUM TIMES has discovered that the suspect has been in hiding since he allegedly committed the offense on Wednesday.

Police said they have launched a manhunt against the suspect for the crime.

Police Public Relations Officer Abimbola Oyeyemi said, "It's true, and we are looking for him. The suspect is an ex-con who has just been released from prison.

"He will be arrested and face the law."

The incident took place in the community of Fehintoluwa in Idiya, in the local government area of ​​Abeokuta-North of the state.

The suspect had previously been convicted of assaulting an outlet operator in the community last year.

The deceased miner was a junior high student at Army Day High School, Alamala in Abeokuta.

Residents claimed the victim was dragged into an unfinished building where she was challenged and also killed.

Contacted, the father of the deceased, Sanjo Fakeye, demanded justice.

Mr. Fakeye explained that "When Janet arrived from school on Wednesday, after finishing her homework, she told me she wanted to buy some detergent from our neighbor to wash her socks.

"I gave her some money to buy the washing powder. After a long time, I didn't see her return from where she had gone to buy the washing powder.

"So I went to see her, I was told that she had been taken care of and had left the premises, I became confused and went to her friend's house to ask for her but she was not there.

"Later, I went to report to the police station around 8:00 p.m. after we searched and couldn't find her. As we were returning from the police station, I received a call from the community saying that they had found my daughter's body. »

Mr. Fakeye said he found his daughter in an unfinished house with the soap she went to buy with bloodstains.
