Lagos Police have refuted a claim by the Nigerian military that its officers shot a soldier during a confrontation in the state last Thursday.

Police, in a statement issued Wednesday by their spokesman in Lagos, Benjamin Hundeyin, said soldiers attacked their officers “without provocation” and abducted two of them.

On Tuesday, the former General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81st Division of the Nigerian Army, Umar Musa, said preliminary investigations revealed that the policeman shot the soldier during the altercation that led to him Hit in the ear but narrowly missed its vital parts.

“The other soldiers reacted to the shot fired by the policeman and this led to them beating the policeman to death,” he said.

Police were attacked by soldiers while controlling traffic in the Ojo area of ​​the Lagos-Badagry highway.

The soldiers were apparently driving in the wrong direction and were stopped by the police.

But they refused and pounced on the policemen, beating them severely, resulting in the death of one policeman.
