Police talk about alleged abduction of 20 people in Ogun

Ogun State Police have dismissed reports that bandits abducted 20 people from the Kara Bridge area on the Lagos-Ibadan highway.

Abimbola Oyeyemi, the state police spokesman, said no kidnappings were reported along the highway on Tuesday.

He described those who spread fake news as troublemakers, who always find joy in causing unnecessary panic in society.

The police statement came amid heightened tension following reports of an impending attack by terrorists in the South West region.

Between last Thursday and Sunday, the Ondo State Security Network, also known as Amotekun, intercepted 320 suspected invaders from the north of the country.

On Monday, Adetunji Adeleye, the commander of Amotekun in Ondo, said 168 of the suspects were hidden under cows and motorcycles inside a truck.

Mr. Oyeyemi said the reported highway abduction was "fake news" and urged the public to go about their normal daily activities.

"Given the ongoing road construction works in this axis, the police commissioner, CP Lanre Bankole, ordered a 24-hour surveillance patrol of the area to control the activities of thugs who might want to take advantage of the traffic jams to perpetrate evil,” he added.
