Post-flood response: Tinubu's wife Sylva donates N50m to Bayelsa victims

The wife of the 2023 All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated 50 million naira to 1,000 flood victims in Bayelsa State as part of an intervention post-flood that would help them recover their businesses lost during the devastating flood that reportedly submerged 80% of the state.

Accompanied by the Honorable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, his wife, Mrs. Alanyingi Sylva, Senator Tinubu said the donation would be managed by Hon. Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, is a deliberate attempt to recap some businesses that have been affected by the flood.

Speaking during her visit to various IDP camps across the state, Senator Tinubu, who came with Hajiya Fatima Nana Shettima, wife of the APC Vice Presidential candidate, described terrible the devastating effects of the flooding in the state. and heartbreaking.

While showing empathy for the flood victims at the Ox-Bow Lake Pavillion Displaced Persons Camp in Yenagoa, Senator Tinubu stressed that the visit was strictly for humanitarian reasons in order to show personal empathy with the Bayelsians for the devastation caused by the flood and to reach out. .

She said "we have come to offer what little help we can. In addition to medicine and medical equipment, food, packaging and other items, I am also donating the sum of 50 million naira to the state.The donation is a wrap up for businesses as some businesses have been affected by the flood.

"The money is for a thousand people each receiving fifty thousand naira as part of a post-flood response and the process would be managed by the Hon. Minister of State, Petroleum Resources.

“We have come here to sympathize with you. We thank the Honorable Minister and his wife, whom we call “mama Petroleum”. We sincerely thank them for what they have done and we salute the people of Bayelsa state. We know what happened on this earth and we come with good news."

Responding to reporters in Yenagoa, Ms Sylva described the situation as delicate and a time when the best of our humanity must be on display and hailed the Bayelsans for holding the fort and said there is some comfort in the fact that help is coming and the worst phase is behind.

In her response to the Igbogene Displaced Persons Camp, Sylva praised the resilience of the Bayelsans, the thoroughness of the camp coordinators and the orderliness of the locals, the Bayelsans in general, who maintained complete anarchy at bay.

Sylva thanked Senator Ms. Oluremi Tinubu and Hajiya Fatima Kashim Shettima for the visit and assured them that it is a moment the people of Bayel will always remember fondly.
