President Biden is making a big shift in how the federal government views marijuana...because he will pardon thousands of people convicted by the federal government of simple possession of weed.< /p>

Biden made the historic announcement Thursday, calling it an end to what he sees as our nation's failed approach to ganja.

POTUS says he pardons all prior offenses for simple possession of marijuana under federal law, a decision the White House says will affect at least 6,500 people, and calls on governors to do the same at the state level.

Biden is also urging the Attorney General and Department of Health and Human Services to review how marijuana is enshrined in federal law... currently the weed is categorized in the same category as heroin and is considered more serious than fentanyl, which Biden says makes no sense.

POTUS says there must still be limitations on trafficking, marketing and sales of marijuana to minors.

Biden says pardons will help people get education, housing and jobs...but there's no clear timeline for when the pardons will happen. The White House said the Justice Department would create a process to accomplish this.

The bottom line for Biden..."sending people to jail for possession of marijuana has upended too many lives."
