The premise of Vincent Garnier Pressiat's fall collection was that a bourgeois Parisian on the tony side of the city finds itself lost in more ways than one in Pigalle. Or as he later put it backstage, "Belle de Jour" minus the moral judgement.
And what better way to plunge into decadence than Le Carmen, the neighborhood's famous nightclub? She would certainly be in good company with a cast that included performer Allannah Starr and singer Halsey.
Par for the course were corsetry work, hand finishing and all manners of lingerie dressing the designer is known for, flavored with the remnants of an award-winning and fitting wardrobe.
There was a demure-looking white suit that revealed a fully laced back. One model, sporting a flamboyant red beehive and a revamped tweed suit with chains and black flowers, was an evocation of the original chic rebel - the late Dame Vivienne. Another, wrapped in an oversized latex trench coat and matching scarf, nodded to Catherine Deneuve's character in Luis Buñuel's film. The fit was kept clean and with an eye for flattering cuts, whether tight or loose.
The coolest were the draped looks, especially dresses and tops that skimmed the floor, a direction he said he wanted to explore. It showed that while Pressiat has found its groove - and its fan base - the party has only just begun.
