Pressured Potter seeks to salvage Chelsea's troubled season with €11m loan help + Joao Felix

January 12 - Chelsea manager Graham Potter has described his current job as "probably the toughest job in football" as he tries to salvage their season.

Chelsea changed hands last May when a consortium led by Todd Boehly completed a £4.25 billion Roman Abramovich-era takeover.

But the club fell to 10th place in the Premier League after winning just one of their last eight games and were knocked out of both domestic cups.

"It's challenging, challenging and ridiculously difficult. I think it's probably the hardest job in football because of this change in leadership and expectations because of, quite rightly, the place where people see Chelsea,” Potter said ahead of Chelsea’s trip to neighbors Fulham tonight, when the spotlight will be firmly on the manager.

“Obviously I didn't think we would lose 10 first team players (to injury)… I also recognize that I'm the head coach and when we lose I'm to blame . »

Chelsea fans chanted the name of Potter's predecessor Thomas Tuchel during Sunday's 4-0 cup defeat at Manchester City.

To help offset the current crisis, the London club have signed Atletico Madrid striker Joao Felix on loan for the remainder of the season for a reported fee of €11m.

Arsenal and Manchester United had been linked with Felix, whose full salary Chelsea will pay until the end of the season as part of the loan deal.

Atletico made Felix the fifth most expensive player in history when they paid Benfica £113million for the then 19-year-old in 2019. He was part of the squad of Portugal at the World Cup, scoring once in five games as they reached the quarter-finals.
